ABDOMINOPLASTY

Excessive abdominal skin and fat or prominent abdomen are common deformities caused by variations in weight, pregnancy or aging and they can be corrected surgically. This is done with an abdominoplasty, which consists of reducing the drooping and excess skin (abdominal apron) and includes the reinforcement or reconstruction of the muscular plane of the abdominal wall in case of coexisting diastasis of the recti abdominis muscles (ie laxity of the abdominal muscular layer), hernias or incisional hernias. The intervention is followed by scars of varying extent, usually well concealed behind the slip or swimsuit. There is also a small scar around the belly button.

This procedure removes the lower stretch marks of the abdomen (located in the removed part), while the upper ones are made less unpleasant due to the skin tension.

Anesthesia is general or spinal / epidural and surgery takes a couple of hours, with a hospital stay, usually for 2 to 4 days. The stitches are almost all absorbable and should not be removed (except for the navel).

The patient is usually reviewed at 7, 14 and 60 days. The result is pleasant right away even if a touchup of the scars is often necessary. For two months after the procedure, an elastic compression garment needs to be worn so as to facilitate tissue settling.
