The chin plays a very important role in determining the beauty of the face. A retruded chin may be increased, while a prominent chin may be reduced to give more harmony to the complexion of facial profile prominences, including the nose and forehead besides the chin.

The increase is usually achieved by implanting a silicone prosthesis of various shapes and sizes according to the specific case, through a small incision inside the mouth (hence without any visible scar tract).

The procedure is a day surgery under local anesthesia with possible sedation, according to the single request. Postoperative dressing is placed for about four days, a little swelling will remain for about a week. There are alternative or less invasive techniques. The osteodistraction technique is more invasive but more natural for the absence of a prosthesis. In practice, incisions in the mandibular bone (osteotomies) are performed and the bone is moved forward a few millimeters, then the bone fragment is fixed with resorbable fixation devices. The bone interruption that is created will heal within a month according to the healing biology of fractures, resulting in a stable and natural improvement in the facial profile.

As an alternative to surgery, it is possible to obtain an increase also through so-called “fillers”, ie gel fillers based on hyaluronic acid and hydroxyapatite, obtaining temporary improvements but with a simple injection in the office, within a few minutes and without surgery.

Chin reduction is carried out by the same surgical approach (endoral) and always under local anesthesia with possible sedation. The excessive prominence is reduced with a small bone cutter connected to a micromotor, which allows you to sculpt bone bones with ease and precision to the desired shape and volume.
In addition to these common corrections, other types of modeling can be obtained, such as creating a more rounded and delicate morphology, or vice versa, more squared or more sharp. In bone remodeling, the dressing is removed after 4 days and chin swelling will persist for about two weeks.
